Atul has over 35 years of enriched experience, with an in-depth knowledge in Indian direct tax compliance, advisory and litigation services.
Atul has joined T. P. Ostwal & Associates LLP since July, 2021 and is leading the Direct Tax Team. Before joining here, he was associated as General Manager (Taxation) with Tata Chemicals Limited since 2009. He has also served as a Partner with M/s Chhajed & Doshi, CAs, since he qualified as a CA, in 1987 where he honed and developed his leadership skills.
He has vast experience in representation before various appellate authorities and also briefing counsels for matters before Bombay High Court and Supreme Court. In his professional journey he has represented taxpayers before the DRP and ITAT in more than 85 cases. He has acquired specialisation in the areas of Corporate Taxation and Transfer Pricing. He has played a vital role in strategizing tax policies and carrying out tax efficient structuring including demergers. He has been successful in favourably concluding various reassessment proceedings and disputes related to Section 80-HHC, Section 80-IA and survey assessments. He was involved in analysing the tax aspects of implementation of IFRS and was a guiding force in digitisation of tax records. He has been instrumental in ensuring that the interest on tax refunds gets a wider scope under the Income-tax Act.
Atul has actively participated in various committees of ICAI, at Central and Regional Council level, was appointed as Committee member of DTC at ICAI. He has been a delegate to present Pre-Budget Memorandum to the Revenue Secretary, GOI on behalf of Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industries. He has been a Core group member since 1994 of the Chamber of Tax Consultants and has also been the Chairman and Panel Member at various platforms like BCAS, and regular contributor at IT Review, Study Circles, ICAI Journal, IMC.
Atul is also a frequent speaker at forums on tax issues like TDS and has been instrumental in bringing about the changes on the TRACES site for user friendly modifications.
